Award ceremony

The closing gala of the second edition of HumanDOC International Documentary Film Festival - Global Development in Cinema took place at Copernicus Science Center in Warsaw , on December 15th, 2011 during The European Development Days.

The jury awarded the prizes in several various categories.

Grand Prix of 3000 euros founded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland for the best foreign film won film "The Boy Mir. Ten Years In Afghanistan”, by Phil Grabsky.

Grand Prix for the Best Polish Film (amounting to 1000 Euro):
funded by the Polish Film Institute won film “Planeta Kirsan” by Magdalena Pięta.

Warsaw Audience Award (1000 Euro) funded by the Institute of International Relations of University of Warsaw won film “Burzynski. Cancer Is Serious Business”, by Eric Merola.

Special Award of the Nationwide Audience for the Films Presented on IPLEX.pl and in Cinemas in Poland (2000 Euro) funded by Polskie Towarzystwo Ubezpieczeń S.A. won film “Burzynski. Cancer Is Serious Business”, by Eric Merola.

Special Awards:

Special Award of the European Commission named “Your Right: Democracy and Development”
for the best thematic film of the festival (a material prize of the value of 4000 Euro) funded by the European Commission. Representatives in Poland won film: “The War You Don’t See” by John Pilger.

Special Award in the category: ”The Right to Freedom”
for the best thematic film of the festival (amounting to 2000 Euro): funded by Bank Zachodni WBK won film “Garbage Warrior” by Oliver Hodge.

Special Award in the category: “Creative Social Advertising” funded by iSource - authorized distributor of Apple in Poland won film “Conflict Free”, by Grant De Sousa (Blue Panter Films).

Special HumanDOC Award for the Best Producers involved in filming valuable reportages and documentary films about developing countries went to Mike Lerner & Martin Herring from Roast Beef Productions film production company.
They are producers of great and award-winning films such as“Afghan Star” and “Hell & Back Again” which were shown during this year's edition of HumanDOC festival.
